22 Jan ECA Executive Director at London IP Week
European Cloud Alliance Executive Director Kim Gagné presented on the topic “Open Source Software and IP Considerations for Developers” at London IP Week on December 11, 2018. London IP Week was a 3-day interactive IP summit that brought together more than 250 professionals concerned with IP rights in the digital age, including IP owners and users, developers, and IP counsels. The automotive, financial services, telecommunications, biotechnology and IoT industries were among those represented and active in an examination of trends in the world of IP.
Kim discussed IP risks in the era of digital transformation, urging the attendees to be proactive in implementing risk mitigation strategies. To illustrate his point, Kim detailed the features of Microsoft’s Azure IP Advantage program, which is designed to help customers protect their cloud-based innovations and investments against IP lawsuits and risks.
A particular focus of Kim’s presentation was how Open Source Software (OSS) spurs technology adoption. Kim highlighted the increased deployment of OSS in cloud applications. He urged attendees to extend their considerations regarding IP risks to include OSS, and drew OSS into his discussion of mitigation strategies.
London IP Week attendees were out in full force for Kim’s talk. Following Kim’s intervention, several attendees, notably corporate counsels, engaged in follow-up discussions with him.
